LOCAL ANALYTIX - Gloved Puppets or Real Men of Conscience?
ENTER SESAME STREET – Puppets On a String and Gloved Hand
Such a fantastically interesting children’s TV comedy that was the rage many years back on every colored TV screen in almost every home.
Educative, hilarious and entertaining at the same time. Adorned a parade of unforgettable comic characters the likes of Ernie, the smart talkative, with his near dumb friend, Bert.
We had big, yellow fluffy Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Elmo, Grover, Oscar who lived out of dust bin, terrifying Count von Count, whose count from one to ten drew thunder and lightning.
The dramatis personae was endless: meet Abby Cadabby, Kermit the Frog, with his microphone and fantastic stage performance, Prattle Down, astonishing female role with a piercing voice, Rosita, Julia, Guy Smiley and a host of others.
But what brought life to these characters were the human actors who manipulated and voiced these comic puppets from their gloved hands and strings attached.
It was simply sheer TV performance and entertainment that left an indelible mark on us kids then, and even adults too
Finally, as Nigerians await the looming ground-breaking, earth-shaking judgment ruling pronouncement of the presidential election petitions tribunal, we hope that we shall not be drawn into a show like Sesame Street.
Because, this is a serious matter, that will define, ultimately, the conscience of a nation bedeviled with accusations of corruption in high places.
Will Nigeria have the guts to join Kenya, the 3rd country in the world, and the 1st in Africa, to annul a presidential election? Or, will the 5 Judges become merely puppets in one man's hand? Or will the evidence before the court prove otherwise?
The world is the watching.
Transparency is the watch word.
Keep the peace.
Keep safe.
