BALKANAZATION OF NIGERIA – Chop, I Chop?

Only questions. Not answers, please.

Leaning on the lyrics of colonial composition, line, hook and sinker, is a clear indication of mere lip service. That is to say that words mean NOTHING to us. Otherwise, words used by a foreigner in describing an indigenous people are mouthed joyously without thought.

To have swung back in double quick time to such lyrics of colonial relics, is also an indictment on our literary icons, with due apologies to Prof Wole Soyinka, winner of the prestigious, internationally revered Nobel Prize of literature.

It is also a downer to our young musicians who have tantalized and mesmerized the entire world to a spell with lyrics that have earned them international recognition at the highest prestigious levels of music rendition. 

Is the British Pound not of more value than the Naira? We might as well have swung back to old colonial Pounds, Shillings and Pence as our local currency!

What it means in summary, is that in this advanced age of the twenty-first century, in spite of our literary and poetic achievements enumerated above, we have demonstrated lack of intellectual, imaginative and creative capacity to be unable to frame words that can speak our collective minds!

 

But that is by the Way.

Let us take a brief perusal of statistics, using ordinary common sense, in a lay man’s language.

How may states in Nigeria can generate enough revenue to sustain themselves?  Why create them in the first place?

Why do you create so many local government areas, and task the federal government to  dole them money every month?

Why do you need two legislative houses, Senate and House of Reps?

Why do you need a Minister, and Minister of State?

Why does a small entity like the city of Abuja need a Minister and Minister of State?

Why do you need the DSS, when we have the CID division in the police?

Why do you need the Federal Road Safety, when you have the VIO?

Why should it become the burden of state to sponsor individuals for pilgrimage in the holy lands of Mecca and Jerusalem?

We hope not to see the day that we split the Air Force into Flying Force and Ground Crew Force, the army into Artillery Army, Administrative Army, Naval Gunship Force and Base Force, etc.…

We have only tipped off the iceberg. 

There are dozen other areas that Nigeria has been balkanized for the mere purpose of further depleting national resources which space will not permit to mention here.

How many of us would balkanize our homes into budget for female children’s feeding; male children's feeding; above 18 years old feeding; wife’s feeding; husband’s feeding; mother’s feeding; father’s feeding; female family members  feeding; male family members feeding? Instead of one whole budget for one big family feeding?
